About Us

With only 5 employees in November 1954, Ken McDonald and Wally Stenton opened their grocery store serving the Bad Axe and Huron County areas.  Today, McDonald’s Food & Family Center has increased its work force to over 100 employees, with over 1176 combined years of experience, and has remodeled several times.  What started as a small operation has grown to meet its customers needs.  Currently, McDonald’s Food & Family Center is owned and operated by Lowell (Ken’s son) and Beth McDonald, and their family Dave, Tina, Rhonda Robinson, Adrienne Kociba (Dave’s daughter), and Justin Kociba.  Dave McDonald (Lowell’s son), Justin Kociba (Dave’s son in-law), and Marvin Osentoski are the assistant managers.

The store has grown to over 40,000 square feet, offering to its customers Groceries, Frozen Foods, Dairy, Bakery/Deli, Produce, Bulk Foods, full service Floral and Meat departments, Catering and Pharmacy departments, General Merchandise, and a restaurant featuring breakfast and lunch specials.  In the spring, we have a Garden Center that features plants and shrubs as well as soil, mulch, and garden supplies.  The Garden Center also specializes in landscape design and installation.  We have services such as stamps, money orders, notary service, photo copies, fax service, film processing, and many more services to meet our customers needs.  Spartan Stores is our supplier and we buy most of our products through them.  We also buy from many “local” suppliers to bring our customers the freshest products at the best possible prices.

Our company strives to bring its customers the best value for their money, and unparalleled customer service.  The good old-fashioned statement “The customer comes first” that McDonald’s Food & Family Center was built on still holds true today.  Also, if we can’t be proud to serve our products on our own dinner table, we won’t sell them to you. We measure our success by each customer that leaves our store having had an enjoyable shopping experience.
